Shinto Village

Shinto Village

On February 5th of this year, announcements were made by the media that Shinto village was selected as one of the sites where a mega solar power plant would be built. As of July 2012, Japan will launch the feed-in-tariff scheme which obliges energy companies to purchase renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydro energy. With this new system, the number of solar power plants is expected to rise in the future. According to the media, the Hashu highland in Shinto was chosen as the site for the plant because of its long hours of daylight and the abundance of beautiful nature. The estimated maximum power output is around 2,400 kilowatts and the annual generation is projected to be 2,680 megawatts which will cover the yearly electricity consumption of approximately 640 households.
