Takehisa Yumeji (1884-1934) was a Japanese painter and a poet. He was born in Okayama Prefecture. When he was 22, one of his book illustrations won a top prize. Soon, he rose to national fame in that field. By 1911, he was a young up-and-coming visual artist, and it was then when he received a fan letter from a 12-year-old girl in Ikaho, Gunma, which caught his eye and he wrote her back. This was his first encounter with Ikaho Hot Springs.
