Chindon’ya, also called Japanese marching band is usually formed using 3 to 5 people, and they advertise in stores and places by walking around the area. They play the Chindon drum which is combined with a Shime-Daiko (small drum) and a Kane (bell). In the Kanto area, Chindon’ya is called “Hiromeya”, and in the Kansai area, it’s called “Touzaiya.” Sometimes Chindon’ya plays at an event or festival because it’s very rare to exist on its own today.
There will be a performance by the No.1 Professional Chindon performer, Tokyo’s “Midoriya”, and an amateur Chindon Contest. You can feel like you’re in a different world just watching them. Don’t miss it!

This exhibition was started in 1950, and this year is the 60th anniversary. The concept is to look back at the history of artists who flourished from after the war until today at the Gunma Art Museum.
