Fujioka

Fujioka

May is the season of many flowers, but wisteria is especially beautiful at this time of the year. The name of the city of Fujioka is closely associated with wisteria flowers. People of Fujioka enjoy a magnificent view of wisteria everywhere in the city. Fujioka's other feature includes RARAN FUJIOKA, a Michinoeki or road station, voted the 2009 Kanto Region's Michinoeki of the year. New additions to Fujioka's long list of attractions after it merged with Onishi-town in 2006 include scenic beauty of great nature like Kanna-ko Reservoir made by the construction of Shimokubo Dam and Sanbaseki Stone Canyon. Seasonal festivals feature the traditional Yabusame in autumn, an exciting Shinto ritual combining archery and horseback riding and is more than 800 years old, and Onikoi-Setsubunsai, a festival in Onishi-town (Onishi literally means 'demon's stone'), where people welcome, not drive out, demons. Why not pay a visit to Fujioka while wisteria flowers are in full bloom?
