Daiko-in Temple

Daiko-in Temple

Founded as a Jodo-shu Buddhist Temple in Ota, Daiko-in has long been the city's symbol and is more than 400 years old. Commonly known as Kosodate Donryu (child-rearing Donryu), citizens of Ota affectionately call it Donryu-sama, the name of the priest who was appointed as the head priest. Many of the citizens visit the temple to take their newborn babies for Hatsumairi ritual (a baby's first visit to a temple/shrine) or their children for 7-5-3 ceremonies, etc. They buy amulets of many different purposes and request prayers during important life events, so the temple has become a pillar of their daily lives.
